Buggies and Bad dreams
I think the Universe is against me today. First i woke up from a terrifying dream ( more about that later). Then at the swimming pool cafe my date loaf was all wrong and my coffee almost blew my head off - i have a feeling i'll still be awake from it NEXT wednesday, it was that strong. Then going out the door to pick Leah up, i realised that my poor old buggy has died - the axle at the bottom has clean snapped off the thing that was holding it on ( hmmm....technical term for "thing that was holding it on"????!) .
Poor old thing; it literally was flogged to death - i've had it for about 18 months and i've been trying to work out roughly how many kilometres i think it's done. Let me think, i walk at least 4km a day just taking leah to and from school, plus usually an extra 2km walking to the shops or whatever, so say 30km a week, times by 18 months........ (find calculator, not feeling very mathematical today.....) ........about 2340 km. In miles that's roughly 1400 miles - i could have walked from John O'Groats to Land's End (about 1080 miles) and then probably over to mum and dad's for dinner! Or from the top of the North Island to the bottom of the South Island, with a bit of swimming in the middle. No wonder the poor thing died.
No wonder i have a great bum, ha ha ha!!!!! Not bad for a second hand buggy that's routinely been carrying about 40kg of children, plus nappy bags and school bags and all manner of other random detritus that i seem to accumulate, every day. But rather annoying that now we won't be able to sell it. Incidentally we were looking at buggies in Baby City on Monday and looking at getting a single buggy with a kiddy board so Jenna can stand up.....went in with a $250 budget in mind and told the woman what we wanted. Well, we could have bought a small car for what she was offering, trying to convince us that we needed something with Ergonomic Design, Pneumatic Tyres and a Detachable Refreshment Tray (yep, those plastic trays with a drinks holder!) for about $900. Needless to say we didn't get a buggy. For $900 i'd just about expect it to have optional wings a la Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
Anyway, got kind of off track there. Back to my awful dream, which was one of those ones that was genuinely terrifying whilst i was asleep but bizarrely comical in the morning. For some reason, I was in our church back in Lancing, attending a 'service' ( i use the term lightly) being held by none other than Adolf Hitler himself, wearing my clothes, quite strangely. Groups of people, some i knew, some i didn't, like an entire marching band (?!) were being marched off to the side room and didn't come out, and we were all really afraid of going in there. I know that Carey and Vicki went in ( sorry guys!!!) but thankfully we didn't have to go in this time. Down the back of the church i bumped into Mr McCurrach ( school music teacher!) who told us that Hitler was eating these people alive, and was encouraging us to make Down With Hitler placards. Which we did. And that was the end and i was very thankful to be awake and not being eaten alive. My commiserations to Vicki and Carey and the marching band.
I was reading my Spike Miligan book before i went to sleep last night ( Adolf Hitler; My Part in His Downfall) so i'm pretty sure that's where it all came from. And i was looking at Carey's and Vicki's blogs before bed so i'm sure it wasn't anything personal!! Bizarre, nonetheless!!!!
And also included in my theory of the universe being against me, today, at 25 years and 11 months, i found actual LINES round my eyes. My reasoning is daily squinting in this stupidly bright Ozone-less country. Honestly, i thought i had a few more years before having to worry about these kinds of things!!!
And the last reason the universe is against me is because it is fly season again *grrrrrrr*. There is NOTHING - absolutely NOTHING that makes me quite as angry as the flies in this country. They just manage to get in, in their seeimng hundreds even if you keep all the windows shut. Today i took immense pleasure in swatting some flies that were copulating on my curtain - no baby flies for them, ha!
Anyway, gotta get back to the books - nowhere NEAR finishing all my revision for Saturday's exam *sigh* Not easy with 3 small people 'helping' me. *note to self* - stop writing blog - might help.
Lots of love, hoping for pleasanter dreams tonight and a brand new buggy in the morning........and no flies.....or squint-induced lines......and a million dollars

mmm... oh dear, doesn't sound like I came off too well in that dream! The walking is scary when you add it up huh? I do about 30 miles a week, so about 1500 miles a year. Cheaper than the gym though! Have a good weekend! Carey
