Summertime

My bad mood has been temporarily abated by the return of the sunshine, you'll all be glad to know :) We've been to the beach today and i WOULD have taken some funny photos of Heidi except when i got my camera out i discovered that the batteries were missing. Turns out Leah and Jenna had organised a stealth mission to steal the batteries for their kitchen that they got for Christmas, so their fault, not mine.

I have been thinking about Summer in general though. This is my fifth summer i've spent in NZ and i've come to the conclusion that some things are just the same wherever you are for summer.....

• Finding that perfect spot on the perfect beach....only to be inundated with wasps/sandflies/(insert bug of choice) the minute you open up your picnic

• Getting sand stuck to you in every conceivable spot....

• ....and having it all fall off the minute you get in the car, so you're actually still finding sand come winter.

• Eating a sandwich the day after being to the beach and crunching on a grain of sand in your fillings.

• Laughing at people trying to get dressed under towels on the beach, but then realising you've either got to do it yourself too or drive home with a soggy bum

• Strawberries

• Asparagus

• Corn on the cob with butter and pepper

• Tennis ( preferably watching)

• Gin and tonic

• Thinking it's acceptable to go to the supermarket barefoot and in your togs just Because It's Summer

• Barbeques

• And the number one, universal, worldwide Law Of Summer......Only men are allowed to operate barbeques.
