The day it rained.....and rained.......and rained....

Where did summer go? It has not stopped raining for a second today and its super windy as well just to ensure the weather is really nasty. So we've had an entire day in the house and i've had to draw on all my super-mummy resources to keep the kids entertained. We ...

  • made playdough ( see photo)
  • played with playdough
  • played painting on the computer
  • pushed the sofas together to make a 'pirate ship' ( see photo)
  • made popcorn and watched a movie
  • made date scones
  • ate mostly all of the date scones, hot with butter, mmmmmm
  • read stories
  • watched a ballroom dancing programme (the bonus of having little girls; they will watch cheesy daytime tv!)
  • decided to have our own ballroom dancing competition ( not sure Elvis is what you'd call traditional ballroom dancing music, but hey, it did the trick)

and in a last minute, 5.30 thing to do and cos they were driving me a bit bonkers, i sent them outside in their raincoats to play. Luckily the neighbours weren't home yet or they might have caled child protection as they both started wailing that they didn't WANT to be outside in the rain and plaintive cries filled the air of "PLEEEEASE can we come inside in the dry mummy?". Felt rather awful so plied them with a chocolate fish each and breathed a huge sigh of relief when adrian came home earlyish, brandishing a big bunch of flowers :)

And oh, i spoke too soon earlier, guess who's back? I just want it to GO AWAY. Maybe i need some Bug-ger Off, see if that could do the trick.. What i feel like screaming at the rat probably wouldn't be quite as polite as that, methinks. Adrian was my hero tonight, he actually unscrewed the lightbulb from the ceiling where we can hear it and put the poison in. I was literally terrified and managed to dream up a scenario where adrian unscrews the lightbulb, electrocutes himself, the rat would jump out of the lightbulb socket and then i'd be faced with a dilemma of whether to help my darling, electrocuted husband or gather up my children and flee screaming from the rat.

Of course, none of that actually happened, it's just my over-active imagination preparing me for the worst and illustrates just nicely how i think waaaay too much! In reality there was no problem, and no jumping rats.

Oh, in all the rat excitement i forgot the most important thing that really made today - heidi laughed for the first time!! I can't pinpoint exactly what it was that made her laugh, i was saying something like "blllbubububa wubballllp" and she threw back her head and gave me a lovely gummy giggle. Soooooooooo cute!!

Night all, going off to dream about nice things like baby giggles and NOT imagine scratchings in the roof......please please please xxx
